Fatal Coney Island car crash death of Klara Litvak
Official identification has confirmed the identity of the woman killed in the recent accident. The incident occurred in the Coney Island area. Klara Litvak, an eighty-nine-year-old resident, died as a result of being struck. The fatal collision took place on Neptune Avenue. The event sadly happened just before noon on Wednesday.
Police reports indicate that Litvak, who resided nearby on the well-known Surf Avenue, was hit shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday. An eighty-six-year-old man, operating an SUV manufactured by Chrysler, was identified as the driver. He was backing his vehicle out of a parking spot. When he engaged the reverse gear, the car unfortunately struck three individuals.
Litvak was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn. Medical personnel pronounced her dead upon arrival. Two other women were also involved in the collision. A seventy-five-year-old woman and a forty-three-year-old woman were injured. Both were transported to Maimonides Medical Center. Their current status is reported as stable.
Eyewitness accounts provide a grim picture of the scene. Surveillance footage captures the maroon-colored SUV partially positioned on the sidewalk. The impact caused significant damage, including broken glass from a building’s railing. A grocery bag was notably left behind amidst the wreckage.
A witness who hurried to the scene described the aftermath as deeply distressing. They shared a harrowing account. “One of them, her shoe was left in the middle of the street,” the woman stated. She added that the injured individuals were covered in blood. “One of them had her teeth knocked out,” she explained. According to the witness, the driver seemed detached, dazed, as he exited his vehicle.
The driver himself was taken to the hospital. His condition was also reported as stable. To date, no arrests have been made by law enforcement. Detectives are actively investigating the cause of the crash. A key point of inquiry is whether the driver might have experienced a medical problem at the time.
