Fatal Harrisburg car crash death of Russell Williams Jr.
The Dauphin County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the individual killed when struck by Amtrak train 607 near Harrisburg International Airport. The deceased is identified as Russell Williams Jr., a 69-year-old resident of Harrisburg.
Williams was hit by the train close to the airport vicinity on Tuesday morning, October 7th. Amtrak reported that the incident occurred west of the Elizabethtown station while the train was en route from New York to Harrisburg. Fortunately, no one else on the train sustained injuries, and arrangements were made for the passengers to be transferred to a different train to continue their journey.
The official cause of death, as stated by the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office, was multiple traumatic injuries. The death was officially ruled an accident. In response to the incident, Amtrak issued a statement the following day, reiterating its commitment to safety. The company mentioned its ongoing collaboration with Operation Lifesaver, Inc., emphasizing the importance of safety measures near railway tracks and at crossings.
