Fatal La Habra shooting death of Jacqueline Medrano and Jonathan Wang

Emergency responders were dispatched following reports of gunfire at a La Habra eatery on Tuesday afternoon. According to the La Habra Police Department, officers arrived at Gui Gui Korean BBQ in the West Imperial Highway area around 6:43 p.m. Inside the facility, they discovered two individuals suffering serious gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed both victims were deceased at the scene.

The identified victims are Jacqueline Medrano, age 45 from Covina, and Jonathan Wang, age 35 from Long Beach. Preliminary information gathered by law enforcement suggests the incident was a murder-suicide. According to a statement released by police on Wednesday, Wang allegedly fired at Medrano, and subsequently took his own life. Investigators have indicated they do not believe there are any suspects at large and the public is not considered threatened.

Police reports indicate that the two individuals had previously been romantically involved. A protective order issued by the Los Angeles Superior Court in September specifically prohibited Mr. Wang from contacting Ms. Medrano. This order remained active at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has relevant information to contact Detective N. Pineda at 562-383-4353.
