Fatal Donna shooting death of Nubia Bravo
A 26-year-old female, who passed away after being shot outside a childcare facility in Donna, was confirmed on Thursday by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. The agency provided this information to Channel 5 News.
The victim, identified as Nubia Bravo, was the daycare center’s director. Sheriff deputies confirmed that her estranged husband, Saul Esquivel, who was 41 years old, was the one who fired the weapon. Esquivel was identified by the sheriff’s office as the shooter.
Deputies stated that Esquivel subsequently pointed the gun at himself and died by suicide. These details were shared by the Hidalgo County Sheriff, Eddie Guerra, with Channel 5 News.
According to the sheriff’s office, the couple had been separated for some time. The separation was reportedly due to the husband being discovered with another woman, an affair. Guerra characterized the incident as a case of domestic violence stemming from their personal relationship.
The sheriff’s office previously reported on the “Deadly shooting near Donna daycare the result of domestic violence.” The incident occurred at Neni’s Childcare #2, situated in the 1200 block of Stites Road.
The attack took place on Wednesday, not long before 3 p.m. Five young children, who were not connected to the couple, were present at the daycare center at that time.
Sheriff Guerra explained that Nubia Bravo managed to separate her husband from the children. He described how she exited through a back door, and the estranged husband followed her outside.
The deputies believe Esquivel then shot and killed Nubia Bravo. After that, according to Guerra, the husband lay down beside his wife and ended his own life.
The children were not injured, the sheriff confirmed. However, they may have been exposed to the sounds of gunfire. Guerra noted that the children did not directly witness the shooting.
On Thursday, the sheriff’s office announced that its crime victims’ assistance unit is offering support to the daycare employees, the children attending the facility, and the families involved.
