Fatal Apple Valley car crash death of Ryan Ebert.
According to Chief Jeff Oxton, Officer Ryan Ebert passed away on Saturday morning at Hennepin County Medical Center, succumbing to injuries suffered earlier in the week. Medical professionals at the hospital had confirmed beforehand that these injuries were not survivable.
Chief Oxton stated that Ebert, who was employed by the Minnesota State Patrol and listed as 44 years old, had dedicated 18 years to the St. Cloud Police Department. Throughout his tenure, he served in both investigative and patrol capacities.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near the intersection of northbound Highway 77 and Interstate 35E in Apple Valley. State patrol records indicate that Ebert was operating his 2024 Dodge Ram 1500 when his vehicle collided with a 2018 transit bus and subsequently struck a cable barrier.
The transit bus driver, identified as 65-year-old Phillip Alan Wright from Apple Valley, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
An official report on the incident notes that alcohol was present in Ebert’s system. Nonetheless, Chief Oxton emphasized in a Friday news release that blood tests revealed only a trace amount of alcohol, far below the level that could cause impairment or constitute driving under the influence. He noted this finding on Saturday.
Oxton also announced on Saturday that Officer Ebert had chosen to donate his organs.
