Fatal Kent train collision death of Pamela Christine Slott – Obituary

Pamela Christine Slott, 64, of Kent, tragically lost her life Monday evening, February 2, after being struck by a northbound freight train near the 1000 block of First Avenue North, authorities confirmed.

Kent Police and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that emergency responders were called to the scene at 5:51 p.m. after the incident on the BNSF tracks. Puget Sound Fire personnel confirmed that Slott did not survive and was pronounced dead at the site.

Preliminary review of surveillance footage revealed that Slott was standing on the tracks and appeared to wave at the approaching train. Train conductors sounded the horn in a last attempt to prevent the collision and applied emergency braking, but the train was unable to stop in time. Her body was found a short distance from the tracks where she had been standing.

The Medical Examiner identified her cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries. Officials emphasized the importance of rail safety, noting that trains can seem farther away and slower than they actually are. The incident took place near 1001 First Avenue North in Kent.

Authorities are reminding the public to exercise caution around railroad tracks and crossings, and additional information on safety is available through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Condolences have been extended to Slott’s family, friends, and all who knew her.
