Fatal Ocala shooting death of Nancy Bacon – Obituary

Nancy Bacon, 34, and her 4-year-old daughter, Eden Barker-Wickramarachchi, were found shot to death inside their Ocala, Florida condominium on Feb. 10. Authorities identified the suspected shooter as Nancy’s estranged husband, Ralph Bacon, 38, who later took his own life in Georgia.

Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken reported that officers responded around 9:16 p.m. to Marion Springs Condominiums on SE Fort King Street after gunshots were reported. Upon arrival, they discovered Nancy and Eden deceased inside the condo unit. Witnesses said they saw Ralph Bacon leaving in a dark SUV with North Carolina plates.

Investigators tracked the vehicle northbound toward the Florida-Georgia border. Georgia authorities stopped the SUV on Interstate 95 near Kingsland, where Ralph Bacon fatally shot himself inside the vehicle. A firearm was recovered, and officials are working to confirm whether it was the same weapon used in the killings.

Chief Balken noted there was no documented history of domestic violence between the couple. Eden was not Ralph Bacon’s child. While Ralph had no criminal record in Marion County, he had prior legal issues elsewhere, including threats. The relationship between Nancy and Ralph was described as intermittent.

These deaths mark the first domestic violence homicides in Ocala for 2026. Local law enforcement emphasized that domestic violence cases are difficult to predict and prevent, and they encouraged anyone in dangerous situations to reach out to CASA Marion at (352) 722-2272 for support.
