Fatal Hempfield Township shooting death of James Thomas – Obituary
James Thomas was fatally shot multiple times on New Year’s Eve at a home on Hugh Street in Hempfield Township. Authorities say the incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. when Robert Naugle, 30, allegedly entered the residence and fired a Glock 19 pistol at Thomas.
According to police, Naugle called 911 to report the shooting, stating he had discovered Thomas with his wife and killed him. Troopers found Thomas in the basement with multiple gunshot wounds, and Naugle was taken into custody without incident.
Emily Naugle, Robert’s wife, told investigators that her husband had filed for divorce in November and moved out two days before the shooting. Officials report that Thomas had been a friend of law enforcement and that Naugle allegedly fired ten rounds during the attack. Robert Naugle is charged with criminal homicide, and the Greensburg State Police continue to investigate the case.
