Shane C. McDermott, 56, of Quincy, was pronounced dead Wednesday evening at Blessing Hospital following an apparent shooting at the intersection of 8th and State.
The Adams County Coroner’s Office confirmed McDermott’s identity but stated the exact cause of death remains under investigation. Quincy police responded to the former LaGondola building just before 6:30 p.m. after a reported burglary at the property, which is owned by McDermott Enterprises LLC.
Upon arrival, officers found McDermott unresponsive and appearing to have been shot. Police, assisted by Adams County EMS and the fire department, provided immediate aid before transporting him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities recovered a handgun and other physical evidence at the scene during the investigation. Officials have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
