Josiah Neil Gilliam, 26, of Boise, was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon by Nampa police following a traffic stop that escalated into gunfire. The Canyon County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Gilliam, who was wanted on a felony warrant for domestic battery with attempted strangulation, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of North 21st Street and Industrial Road. Police reports indicate that during the stop, Gilliam, who was a passenger in the vehicle, brandished a handgun and did not comply with officers’ commands, prompting them to open fire.
Authorities say the coroner’s office arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting and confirmed Gilliam’s identity. An autopsy later determined that multiple gunshot wounds caused his death. The manner of death and full circumstances remain under investigation by local law enforcement.
