Josiah Neil Gilliam dies in fatal Nampa shooting

Fatal Nampa shooting death of Josiah Neil Gilliam – Obituary

Josiah Neil Gilliam, 26, of Boise, was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon by Nampa police following a traffic stop that escalated into gunfire. The Canyon County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Gilliam, who was wanted on a felony warrant for domestic battery with attempted strangulation, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of North 21st Street and Industrial Road. Police reports indicate that during the stop, Gilliam, who was a passenger in the vehicle, brandished a handgun and did not comply with officers’ commands, prompting them to open fire.

Authorities say the coroner’s office arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting and confirmed Gilliam’s identity. An autopsy later determined that multiple gunshot wounds caused his death. The manner of death and full circumstances remain under investigation by local law enforcement.

Caldwell Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force, a team of investigators from Canyon and Owyhee counties who handle serious officer-involved incidents. Officials noted the inquiry could take several weeks or months, and some details are being withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation.

During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle was reportedly shot in the hand, though further details about the car and other specifics have not been released. Law enforcement officials stated they are reviewing evidence, conducting interviews, and analyzing body-worn camera footage as part of the ongoing probe.

Authorities have emphasized their commitment to transparency and have promised updates as the investigation progresses.
