Authorities have confirmed the identities of two men who lost their lives following a fiery single-vehicle crash earlier this week in Winston-Salem. The collision occurred during the afternoon of Monday, March 2, along Ridgewood Road.
Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department were called to the scene after reports that a vehicle had veered off the roadway and caught fire. When emergency crews arrived, they discovered the car off the side of the road fully engulfed in flames.
Both occupants remained inside the vehicle when responders reached the scene. Officials pronounced the driver, 26-year-old Francisco Mejia Jr., and his passenger, 27-year-old Daniel Ramos, dead at the location of the crash.
Investigators determined that the car had been traveling on Ridgewood Road toward High Point Road when the driver apparently lost control while approaching a curve. The vehicle then left the roadway, struck a tree, and burst into flames shortly afterward.
The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine what led to the loss of control.
Family members and loved ones are mourning the sudden loss of both men as the investigation remains ongoing.
