Fatal Adair County, Kentucky officer-involved shooting death of Ryan Sneed – Obituary

Authorities in Adair County, Kentucky have released new details following a deadly standoff that ended with the death of 39-year-old Ryan Sneed and the discovery of three additional victims.

According to investigators, deputies from the Adair County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a disturbance at a home on Chestnut Grove Road shortly before 11 a.m. on April 20. When they arrived, they encountered Sneed, who was armed and allegedly opened fire, forcing deputies to take cover for several hours.

Additional law enforcement, including Kentucky State Police, responded to assist but were also met with gunfire from inside the residence where Sneed had barricaded himself. A specialized response team later arrived and was able to safely remove the trapped deputies and another individual from the scene.

Negotiations continued throughout the day in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully. However, officials said Sneed intermittently continued shooting before eventually exiting the home with a weapon just before 7 p.m. At that point, officers fired, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

During the investigation, troopers learned that Sneed had allegedly made threats against family members. Welfare checks led to the discovery of his 67-year-old mother, Joyce Sneed, at a residence on Lakeview Drive, and his 63-year-old aunt, Debra Clark, at a home on Henson Road. Both were found dead.

A fourth victim, identified as 37-year-old Michael Adam Curry, was also located deceased at the scene of the standoff. Authorities have indicated that Sneed is considered a person of interest in those deaths.

Kentucky State Police Post 15 is continuing to investigate the three deaths, while a separate critical incident team is handling the officer-involved shooting review. Officials say the case remains under active investigation.
