Authorities have confirmed that Olaolukitan Adon Abel, a man accused in a multi-victim shooting case, died while in custody at the DeKalb County Jail.

Jail officials reported that Abel was discovered unresponsive inside his cell around 6:48 p.m. on April 21. Staff immediately alerted medical personnel and began lifesaving efforts, but he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:17 p.m.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office stated that there is currently no indication of foul play in the incident. An internal review has been launched, and the official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.

Abel had been held in connection with a series of violent shootings across the county that occurred on April 13, which left multiple victims dead and injured, including incidents in Brookhaven, Decatur, and along Wesley Chapel Road.

At the time of his death, family members of one of the victims were reportedly holding a vigil. Authorities continue to investigate both the original shooting case and the circumstances surrounding Abel’s death in custody.
