Fatal Laurel, Delaware bicycle crash death of Jose Calvo Velasquez – Obituary
Authorities have identified a 26-year-old man who lost his life following a bicycle crash near Laurel. The victim was named as Jose Calvo Velasquez.
According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. on April 19 along Shiloh Church Road as Velasquez was traveling westbound toward Turkey Knob Road. Investigators say he was struck by a Ford Explorer that was moving in the same direction.
The impact threw Velasquez from his bicycle, and he was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the SUV, a 75-year-old man from Delmar, was not hurt in the crash.
The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to come forward.
