Authorities have confirmed the identity of a man who lost his life following a crash along Highway 23 in Moorpark on April 17.
Luis David Rodriguez Mex, 33, a resident of Thousand Oaks, was identified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials reported that he suffered fatal blunt force injuries to his torso, and the incident was determined to be accidental.
According to earlier statements from the California Highway Patrol, Rodriguez Mex had been driving a black Volkswagen Jetta northbound on Highway 23 at approximately 1:14 a.m. when he attempted an unsafe turn while exiting onto Tierra Rejada Road.
During the maneuver, the vehicle collided with a road sign and then struck a tree before overturning. Rodriguez Mex remained inside the car as it flipped and was declared dead at the scene by responding authorities.
The crash remains classified as an accident as investigations concluded no foul play was involved.
