Fatal Georgetown crash death of Michael Jeffra – Obituary

Delaware State Police have confirmed the identity of an elderly man who died following a single-vehicle crash earlier this month just north of Georgetown.

Michael Jeffra, 81, was identified as the victim. According to authorities, he was found unresponsive at the scene when troopers responded to reports of a crash around noon on April 17 along Route 113, also known as Dupont Boulevard, near McColleys Chapel Road.

Investigators determined that Jeffra had been driving a Ford Explorer southbound when his vehicle slowly veered off the right side of the roadway. The SUV struck a mailbox, then a road sign, and continued into a large embankment before coming to a stop.

Shortly after the collision, the vehicle caught fire. Nearby bystanders quickly intervened, pulling Jeffra from the burning SUV and attempting to provide first aid until emergency personnel arrived.

Police indicated that Jeffra may have experienced a medical episode before the crash occurred. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Medical officials concluded that his death resulted from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities continue to classify the incident as a crash with no indication of foul play.
