The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the death of its District 4 officer, Malik Baker, in a serious accident Tuesday morning. According to police reports, Officer Baker was killed when his vehicle collided with the rear of a trailer hitched to another car on Interstate 55 in Illinois. He had been employed with the SLMPD for approximately four years. Officials stated that the officer was driving a Toyota vehicle and was following a Ford with an attached trailer at the time of the collision. Paramedics pronounced Baker dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, a 57-year-old man from Missouri, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries in the crash. The Illinois State Police have been notified and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
