Fatal Shrewsbury Township car crash death of Thomas Downey
Pennsylvania State Police reported the death of an elderly man following a severe collision in York County. The incident was captured by local news coverage, including a video segment from WGAL News 8 Today.
The fatal accident occurred along Pleasant Valley Road, near the intersection with Taylor Hill Road, in the Shrewsbury Township area. The collision took place at approximately 7:42 a.m. on the morning of September 15th.
According to the investigation by state troopers, Thomas Downey, who was 80 years old and a resident of Glen Rock, was operating a Mazda MX-5 automobile at the time of the incident. Reports indicate that Mr. Downey suffered a sudden medical event, causing his vehicle to leave the designated roadway.
His car subsequently crashed down a significant incline, striking a large boulder directly. This impact resulted in the vehicle flipping and resting on its roof. Medical personnel transported Mr. Downey to York Hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the medical facility.
No other individuals were inside Mr. Downey’s vehicle at the time of the crash. Additionally, the official police statement indicated that no other motor vehicles were involved in the collision.
