Fatal Central City shooting death of Willie Lemar Jr.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, a man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the shooting death of 59-year-old Willie Lemar Jr., which occurred earlier in the week.
The arrested individual, Wallace Gilmore, who is 49 years old, was taken into custody in the 3000 block of Freret Street. He is expected to be processed at the Orleans Parish jail for charges including second-degree murder, according to law enforcement officials.
The authorities did not disclose the specific evidence that led to Mr. Gilmore’s apprehension.
Mr. Gilmore is formally accused of fatally shooting Lemar on Monday. It is noted that, according to police documentation, this date coincided with Gilmore’s birthday.
Police services were alerted just before the middle of the day to the 2700 block of Lasalle Street. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Lemar with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, medical professionals later confirmed that Lemar passed away at the hospital.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office reported on Wednesday that Lemar’s death was the direct result of injuries inflicted by a gunshot wound.
