Fatal Littlerock car crash death of Sergio Ortega
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiners Office has confirmed that eighteen-year-old Sergio Ortega, who was killed earlier that night in a three vehicle collision near Littlerock, is the individual involved.
Law enforcement officials from the Antelope Valley branch of the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to the intersection of 90th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard on Monday, September 22nd, 2025, towards the evening hour of 6:55 PM, following reports of a complex traffic accident.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find significant damage: an overturned sport utility vehicle, a white Chevrolet Avalanche obstructing the road, and a severely damaged Infiniti sedan partially blocked by the Kwik gas station. People assisting at the scene attempted aid for the injured individuals immediately following the collision.
The identified driver of the overturned SUV was already out of their vehicle; occupants inside the Avalanche, though not named, suffered no significant injuries.
Ortega, identified as the driver of the damaged Infiniti sedan, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the location before medical personnel arrived.
Social media platforms quickly filled with footage showing bystanders administering aid to Ortega right after the incident occurred.
**UPDATED INFORMATION VIA CHP AV STATION PRESS RELEASE**
The Antelope Valley Station of the California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into a fatal traffic incident involving driving under the influence that occurred on September 22, 2025.
The preliminary findings indicate that a maroon Kia Sorento, operated by 47-year-old M. Monroy from Palmdale, was moving at an excessive speed along 90th Street East heading south at approximately 6:50 PM. Monroy disregarded a red light at the intersection with Palmdale Boulevard and crossed into the path of an eastbound gray Infiniti G35.
The resulting collision caused the Infiniti to lose control, subsequently crashing into the white Chevrolet Avalanche which had stopped for the red light. This impact led to Ortega’s death.
Monroy sustained considerable injuries and was taken to a regional hospital for treatment.
Due to his blood-alcohol level, Monroy was arrested on charges of driving under the influence. It is believed that his impairment was a key factor contributing to the crash.
A young female passenger in the Avalanche experienced only slight injuries. The 69-year-old driver of the Avalanche, G. Martinez from Lancaster, escaped injury.
