Two pilots tragically lost their lives in a Cessna crash near Lake Pontchartrain last month, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board. The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Taylor Dickey of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Navy Lieutenant David Jahn of Illinois, who was stationed in Biloxi. Both were pursuing commercial pilot licenses at the time of the accident.
The NTSB report indicates that the aircraft was approaching Lakefront Airport when it descended for roughly 27 seconds before reaching its final recorded position. Wreckage was later recovered approximately 500 feet from this location, and investigators noted that the plane broke apart upon impact.
Authorities have stated that a full report will be released at a later date, as investigators continue to analyze the circumstances surrounding the crash that claimed the lives of the two aspiring pilots.
