Fatal Wichita Falls Central Freeway car crash death of Mark Coleman – Obituary
Mark Coleman, 54, lost his life following a devastating single-vehicle accident that occurred on January 19, 2026, along Central Freeway in Wichita Falls after an apparent mechanical failure.
Police officers were dispatched to the area near Maurine Street after receiving reports of a serious crash. Investigators said a red 2009 GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling northbound when it appeared to suffer a tire blowout.
The truck slammed into the concrete median barrier, crossed multiple lanes of traffic, and left the roadway, eventually striking a tree in the grassy median near the 1500 block.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle began emitting smoke shortly after the crash. Several motorists stopped to assist and discovered Coleman unconscious inside the damaged pickup. Acting quickly, the bystanders pulled him from the vehicle and moved him roughly 30 yards away. Within moments, the truck was engulfed in flames.
The Wichita Falls Fire Department responded and put out the fire, while AMR paramedics transported Coleman to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of those who stopped to help and emergency crews on scene, Coleman was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials confirmed that his family has been notified.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, noting both the unpredictable nature of roadway emergencies and the bravery shown by citizens who intervened in an attempt to save a life.
