Fatal Coalisland, Co Tyrone car crash death of Gerard Rafferty – Obituary

Gerard Rafferty, a 71-year-old man from the Coalisland area, has died following a serious crash in which the vehicle he was traveling in struck a shop in Coalisland, County Tyrone.

Police said the incident happened in the Moor Road area. Emergency services, including the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, were called to the scene. Despite their efforts, Rafferty, who was also known locally as “Jock,” died a short time later.

A member of the public who was inside the shop at the time of the crash was injured. Their condition has not been further detailed.

Chief Inspector Simpson of the PSNI Collision Investigation Unit confirmed that an investigation is underway. Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam or other digital footage to come forward.

As investigations continue, Moor Road remains closed to traffic between Washingbay Road and Gortgonis Road, with road users advised to seek alternative routes.
