Ahmed Ali, 27, of Edmonton, was killed Monday morning after his car broke down on Anthony Henday Drive near Heritage Valley Road. The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. as Ali was driving to work.

Ali’s Volkswagen Passat experienced mechanical failure, and although he activated his hazard lights and attempted to move to safety, the vehicle remained in the far right eastbound lane. He had called roadside assistance, which estimated a 90-minute wait for a tow, and then reached out to a friend for help. Tragically, the crash occurred just minutes before his friend arrived.

Ali, who had fled his homeland due to war and aspired to a career in sports management, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
