Luis Sotero Herrera dies in fatal Madison shooting

Fatal Madison shooting death of Luis Sotero Herrera – Obituary

Luis Sotero Herrera, 34, of Madison, was killed in a shooting early Sunday morning on the 400 block of Primrose Lane on the city’s south side. Police responded around 3:30 a.m. and found Herrera suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to provide aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have arrested two people in connection with the homicide: 67-year-old Jorge Eleodoro Baez and Melissa Britt Basilo Ruiz, who is Baez’s daughter and a former partner of the victim. Baez appeared in Dane County Court with his bond set at $2 million.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy on Herrera, though the official cause and manner of death are still being determined. Madison Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
