Fatal Shelby County train crash death of Michelle Manning – Obituary

A 31-year-old woman lost her life Tuesday evening when her vehicle was struck by a train in Shelby County, Alabama.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that the collision occurred around 7:50 p.m. on County Road 433 near Johnson Road, close to a lumberyard and about a mile east of Chelsea. The victim, driving a Volkswagen Passat, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner later confirmed her identity as Michelle Manning of Mississippi; earlier reports had incorrectly named her as Marie Manning.

Authorities said the CSX Transportation train was involved, and the railroad crossing was reopened by approximately 10:30 p.m.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
