Authorities have identified three individuals who lost their lives in a tragic wrong-way collision on Interstate 10 in Coachella earlier this week. Officials from the Riverside County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities on Thursday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 71-year-old man was driving წინააღმდეგ traffic on the freeway. His Toyota Camry collided head-on with a Honda Accord traveling in the correct direction.
The victims included the driver of the Honda, Lizeth Duran Martinez, and her passenger, Meliton Perez Dominguez, both 39 years old and residents of Phoenix. The driver of the Toyota, identified as 71-year-old Guillermo Ocampo Bahena from Orange, was also killed in the crash.
Investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
