Nils Hakansson, an 88-year-old resident of Sebastopol, lost his life after a collision involving two vehicles in Sea Ranch.
Nils Hakansson was driving a Tesla when the fatal incident occurred at an intersection along Highway 1 near Yardham Drive on Friday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Hakansson attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 1 shortly before 5 p.m. when his vehicle entered the path of an oncoming southbound Dodge pickup truck that was towing a trailer.
The truck driver was unable to avoid the collision, and the pickup struck the Tesla with significant force.
Emergency responders confirmed that Hakansson was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.
A passenger traveling in the Tesla sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Dodge pickup also sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby medical facility.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash as part of an ongoing investigation.
