Authorities have confirmed the identity of a woman who lost her life following a serious crash in Charleston on Friday morning. Officials from the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office said 79-year-old Bella Cousette died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 10:50 a.m. to Clements Ferry Road near Reflectance Drive, where a Hyundai SUV and an 18-wheeler were involved in a crash. Early findings indicate that the SUV was pulling out of a parking area and attempted to cross the southbound lane, moving into the path of the oncoming truck.
The large truck collided with the SUV, forcing it off the roadway before it came to a stop along the shoulder. Cousette, who was driving the SUV, was taken to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators are still reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash. As of now, no charges have been announced. Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
