Authorities have confirmed that 42-year-old Lindsay Velasquez, an assistant principal in the Fort Worth Independent School District and a mother of three, lost her life following a shooting in Benbrook.
Emergency responders were called to the 1000 block of Sproles Drive on April 17 after reports that an individual had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Velasquez unresponsive with a gunshot wound to her face. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
At the scene, police took 39-year-old Alberto Velasquez into custody. He has since been charged with manslaughter and remains in jail as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Although both individuals share the same last name and the shooting occurred at a residence, officials have not publicly confirmed any relationship between them.
The Fort Worth Independent School District released a statement expressing grief over the loss of Velasquez, describing her as a dedicated educator and leader. The district has made counselors and additional support staff available to help students and faculty cope with the tragedy.
Velasquez is remembered as a devoted mother to her three daughters and a valued member of her school community. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
