Fatal Seffner, Florida car crash death of Elijah Battiste – Obituary
Authorities in Hillsborough County report that Elijah Battiste, a teenage student, lost his life following a multi-vehicle roadway collision in Seffner over the weekend, prompting grief support measures at his school.
Florida Highway Patrol stated that a 40-year-old man from Mulberry was operating a Nissan Versa heading east on State Road 574 when he crossed into the opposite lane. At the same time, Elijah Battiste, 17, was driving a Volkswagen Passat westbound along the same stretch of road. The two vehicles collided almost head-on near the Chastain Road area.
Investigators said that after the initial impact, both cars came to a halt in the roadway. Moments later, a Ford F-150 struck the Volkswagen, further complicating the scene. The driver of the pickup then left the area on foot and has not yet been located.
Emergency responders transported both original drivers to hospital with critical injuries. Battiste later succumbed to those injuries despite medical efforts.
Officials are still working to determine what caused the Nissan to veer into oncoming traffic. Law enforcement continues to search for the driver of the Ford involved in the secondary impact and is urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.
